Internship Spotlight: Jillian Faber
Why did you decide to intern at K2?
Prior to my internship with K2 Dental Arts, I had only a chair-side understanding of the career of dentistry. I decided to join the K2 team in order to gain exposure to both the laboratory and business facets of restorative dentistry. What was some of the work you did? My roles this summer included researching the latest dental technology, customer account management, customer support, continuing education certification, social media management, collections, and sales. As a result of my time at K2, I am now proficient in my use of both Trios and iTero Digital Scanners, as well as in my use of both the 3 Shape and Labstar software systems. By the end of the summer, I was personally reviewing margins, bites, undercuts, draw issues, and occlusal space, as well as advising dentists with regard to material selection for their restorations. What was something you really enjoyed about the internship? What I enjoyed most about my internship were the business trips I took, in which my co-workers and I taught Virginia dentists how to use the Trios and iTero Digital Scanners. Not only did these trips afford me invaluable, hands-on experience, but they also allowed me to develop my professionalism, public speaking, and teamwork skills. Furthermore, it was rewarding to witness the eagerness displayed by the scanners’ first-time users. What excites me about dentistry is it is a career that truly involves life-long learning—I hope to one day be those dentists’ shoes and show the same enthusiasm towards the next big development in dental technology. Can you name an interesting fact that you learned about the dental world? Currently in dentistry, there is a growing shift from a private practice model toward a group model. This consolidation is occurring due to ongoing coverage changes within the dental insurance industry. Can you name an interesting fact you learned about business? There are two main elements determine the initial success of a startup company: market timing, and your team. Any words of advice for potential dental or business candidates? K2 provides its interns numerous opportunities to visit practices all over the state of Virginia. Say yes to every opportunity for a truly unique pre-dental experience! |
